My name is Giuseppe Campisi and I am an acoustic and electric bass player, composer and arranger. I grew up in the beautiful Mediterranean island of Sicily, where I developed my passion for music from a young age, and I currently live in Barcelona.
During the course of the years I have earned a degree Magna Cum Laude in Jazz Composition at Berklee College of Music as well as a master in Jazz Performance at the Conservatorium Van Amsterdam; I have written for and performed with a wide variety of groups, ranging from small to large ensembles, and I’ve been working actively both as a sideman and as a leader of my own projects.
I currently teach jazz double bass and ensemble at the prestigious MUSIKENE | Centro Superior de Música del País Vasco in Donosti. I also collaborate with El CAMM | El Centro de Artes y Música Moderna in Málaga.
Throughout my career I’ve had the chance to perform in major festivals and venues, including Umbria Jazz, Umbria Jazz Winter, London Jazz Festival, Bimhuis, Amersfoort Jazz Festival, Grachtenfestival, Teatro Colón Bogotá, Catania Jazz, Bflat, International Festival du Luth à Tétouan, Flamenco Biënnale, Muziekgebouw aan 't IJ, Festival de Jazz de Terrassa, L’Auditori Barcelona, Festival de Jazz de Sant Andreu and Voll-Damm Festival de Jazz de Barcelona, to name a few.
Among the others, I’ve performed and recorded with artists like Dick Oatts, Wayne Escoffery, Perico Sambeat, George Garzone, Ben Van Gelder, Andrea Motis, Jasper Blom, Michael Moore, Lluís Vidal, Benjamin Herman, Harry Allen, Jorge Rossy, Marc Miralta, Ferenc Nemeth and Kirk Lightsey.
I am happy to be involved in several projects and to play with musicians I admire deeply.
Besides my numerous collaborations as a sideman, over the years I have recorded and released three albums under my own name, as well as several others as a co-lider.
As of today, I’m mainly working on two projects of my own: Alavò, which blends Sicilian tradition with modern music, and Fluid Collective. You can read more about both projects in their dedicated sections of this website.
